Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, demons, and dark forces increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might seem mismatched, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.
The antagonist then cleared his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as important members in the powerful family could enable the party enter areas they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.
This results in them few options but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.
